Yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual practice that aims to create a union between body, mind, and spirit. The national centre for complementary and integrative health strongly recommends yoga for overall health and well-being for people across all age types and several health conditions (Kelley et al, 2015). Current literature strongly recommends that regular practice of yoga can lead to positive effects on mental and physical health (Sylvia et al, 2021). These effects include reduction in musculoskeletal aches and pains, improvement in the metabolic rate, control of the blood pressure, blood sugar levels and cholesterol levels, maintenance of gut health, improvement in immunity, and a significant reduction in the risk of cardiovascular and respiratory conditions. Some studies show that regular yoga practice can be superior to other forms of exercise in improving the quality of life (Patel et al, 2012; Ward et al, 2013).
