Conditions

Sports Injuries

Injuries through sport can occur at any age. The most commonly affected regions are the Achilles tendon and calf muscle; the hamstrings or quadricep muscles and the rotator cuff muscles surrounding the shoulder.

Soft tissue and sporting injuries tend to respond well to treatment as soon as the injury occurs. Physiotherapy helps to control the swelling and pain caused by strains and sprains, ensuring you return to your previous level of activity as quickly as possible and minimise the chance of re-injury.

Treatment often follows the RICE regime (rest, ice, compression and elevation), once tolerated, your therapist may then use specific soft tissue mobilisations to encourage normal tissue alignment. These may be; electrotherapy, stretching, strengthening and acupuncture.

Here at Physio & Health Matters we can also offer a biomechanical assessment and proprioceptive re-education which will help to prevent future injury.
