Conditions

Ankle & Foot

The most common cause of ankle and foot pain is a “sprained ankle.” An ankle sprain refers to soft tissue damage to the ligaments around the ankle joint. It is often characterised by pain; swelling; redness; heat and stiffness. However, pain in the ankle and foot may also be caused by ankle instability; arthritis; gout; nerve compression (tarsal tunnel syndrome); infection and faulty biomechanics of the lower limb.

Initial treatment may consist of RICE (rest, ice, compression & elevation); joint mobilisation, soft tissue mobilisations; stretching; strengthening; electrotherapy; Acupuncture and a tailored home exercise programme.

Other Conditions:

  • Plantarfascitis
  • Metartarsalgia
  • Tendonitis
  • Ligament sprains
