Conditions

Parkinson’s Disease

Parkinson’s Disease is caused because people don’t have enough of the chemical dopamine. This is usually because some of the nerve cells in the brain that make dopamine, have died. At present we don’t yet know exactly why people get Parkinson’s, but researchers think it’s a combination of genetic and environmental factors that cause the dopamine-producing nerve cells to die.

The most common symptoms of Parkinson’s are tremor, rigidity and slowness of movement. But there are different types of Parkinson’s Disease, these are;

  • Idiopathic Parkinson’s
  • Vascular Parkinson’s
  • Drug induced Parkinson’s
  • Multiple system atrophy (MSA)
  • Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP)
  • Normal pressure hydrocephalus
  • Various tremors, including essential tremor
  • Wilson’s disease
