Complex/Polytrauma

Polytrauma occurs when a person experiences injury to multiple body parts and organ systems. Polytrauma results in a combination disabling conditions, such as Brain injury, bone fractures, amputations, burns, spinal cord injury, auditory and visual damage, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and many other medical conditions.

Often the person who has had Complex / Polytrauma required lifesaving intervention and requires specialist rehabilitation from a team of specialists. Working with an MDT is a key part of holistic care an essential in assisting recovery.

Assessment

The physiotherapist will take a history and conduct a physical examination.

The findings will then be discussed with you and a diagnosis made.

Treatment Plan

A treatment plan will be compiled taking into consideration your goals and expectations. The physiotherapist will discuss prognosis and any further investigation that they feel you may need.

Physiotherapy

Your treatment will commence. This may include manual therapies such as mobilisation or massage, pain relief and anti-inflammatory treatment.
