Conditions

Cerebral Palsy (CP)

At Physio & Health Matters we understand Cerebral palsy and the impact that it has on people’s lives. Cerebral palsy can occur if a baby’s brain doesn’t develop normally whilst in the womb or is damaged soon after birth. In many cases the exact cause isn’t clear.

The impact of the damage to the brain isn’t always obvious, sometimes it becomes more noticeable during the first few years at they start to show difficulties developing. These difficulties can include being very stiff, or very floppy, muscle spasms and uncontrolled movements, difficulties swallowing or speaking, toe walking and in some cases result in a learning difficulty.

The severity of symptoms can vary from person to person with some people able to live with minor problems, whist others are severely affected. Unfortunately, there is no cure for CP, but there are many treatments available to help people with CP lead as independently as possible.
